Free Speech or Shouting Fire in a Crowded Theater?
Former President Donald Trump’s historic second impeachment trial begins Tuesday. The Senate to decide whether to his words to his followers were free speech or whether he should be convicted of incitement of insurrection after a violent mob of his supporters laid siege to the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6. Today, we are going to look at the rules related to free speech and analyze what former President Trump has said. Each of us, like the U.S. Senate can decide whether Trump's words were protected speech or unprotected words that incited violence.
