New York Times Student Review Contest Ending January 26; Upward Bound Student Review Contest
The New York Times has a 2021 Review Writing Contest for students. Students who enter the contest must review something that is new to them in 450 words or less (not including the title). A double-spaced review will be about 1.8 pages long. The review must be submitted to the New York Times no later than January 26, 2021. Students can also submit the same review to the Upward Bound Review Writing Contest by sharing a Google docs document with me at marshalgriffiths@gmail.com no later than January 26, 2021. First prize is $50; Second Prize is $25.00, and Third Prize is $15.00. If you don't have access to a computer, and it would be easier, you can hand write your review and take a picture of the pages and send them to me at my email address.
Reviews can be written on any subject that the New York Times Critics review: Architecture, Art, Books, Comedy, Dance, Fashion, Hotels, Movies, Music, Podcasts, Restaurants, Technology, Theater, TV Shows, Video Games.
We will be spending classes before January 26 on learning how to write and improve our reviews. The skills that you learn in this process will assist you in writing reviews where you want to let others know about your positive or negative perceptions with a variety of experiences, services and products. It will also assist in preparing to write a review for your Freshman English 102 class.
