Lesson on Ethos, Logos and Pathos. Review MLK Letter. Perform grammar exercises on blog. Homework: Use ethos, logos and pathos to write Mr. Lester a letter using ethos, logos and pathos to attempt to persuade him to let you bring your pet kangaroo on the trip this year. In addition, today, we are going to do two grammar exercises where you will show me your scores afterward. These will be quiz scores. You can do them more than once, but you can't help each other as the object is for this to be an opportunity to learn. You will find them on the left under, Grammar Exercises/Grammar Practices. You must show me your score to get the points. Today, we are going to read an article and discuss writing our conclusions to our essays. Then, you will have the rest of the class to finish your essays. This will be your final day to work on essays. For homework tonight, you will write a reflection essay. Your reflection essay should be at least 1/2 page long. You should discuss your experience in researching possible careers and writing your roadmap essay about your plans for the future. You can talk about anything that you found that was interesting, any discoveries that you made about yourself and what you want you want for your future. You should discuss your experience in writing your essay. If you finish early in class, please go to the grammar exercises on the blog. It is on the left hand side. Start with "Sentence Exercise with Explanation."

Get out the outlines and the grammar worksheets that you did for homework. First, we are going to do a peer review. Next, we are going to consider the peer review that we received from another student and begin typing our paper on your personal class link. Remember to start with MLA. You can use today's date. I will be moving around the class helping each person to make sure they have a strong thesis statements to write their body paragraphs for homework tonight. Tonight's homework for persons writing the research essay will include the introduction and three body paragraphs that should be completed on your personal link. For those writing the financial scholarship essay, your goal is to write one and one-half pages.

First, we are going to do a grammar lesson. We will talk about common mistakes that I am seeing in writing, including comma splices, sentence fragments and run-on sentences. Next, we will do a quiz. After this, we are going to review what it takes to write a good introductory paragraph and talk about writing topic sentences for your three paragraphs in your essay. You will work on writing your introductory paragraph in class. For homework, you will have a grammar worksheet and an outline which will require you to work on your introductory paragraph, topic sentences and details for your essays.

June 30/July 1 - Beginning the Essay Writing Process

We are going to focus on the process of writing introductions and practice writing an introduction in class. Next, I will do a presentation on commas, colons, and semicolons. 27 July 2025 - Am I Getting What I Want?
In MLA Style, in a Microsoft Word document, we are going to write about our first week at Upward Bound in class today.Think about your first assignment in this class where you stated what wanted to get from from attending Upward Bound this summer. Next, I want you to think about your first week at Upward Bound. Then, write five paragraphs for the five items listed below:
1. Describe your first week of Upward Bound.
2 Tell how your first week of Upward Bound was or was not like how you expected it to be. Explain anything that you found “particularly surprising, meaningful or challenging.”
3. Explain what you you learned from the experiences you had your first week.
4. Finally, explain how you think you will use what you learned during this week in the future. The future could be next week, next year or some other time in the future. 5. Finally, answer the question, "Am I getting out of Upward Bound what I want?" If not, tell me what YOU can do to get more out of your Upward Bound summer.

1. Take out a piece of paper. Write a paragraph telling your instructor what college major and career(s) you are considering and why you are considering them. Use MLA Format.
2. Go to the section on the blog for Composition II on the right-hand side. Click on the link to "Career Interests Test" and complete the test.
3. Go back to the paper that you wrote about your potential career(s) and college major, and write about three things that you found interesting in your results for the career aptitude test.

Then tell Mr. Lester how what you learned in class today may or may not have surprised you. You will turn in both sets of paragraphs on Friday.
